Managing Partner Message

A Message from Taylor H. Wilson
January 2021

2020 ... None of us saw that coming. Right?

Actually, some did. Many of you knew in 2019 what we have always known at Haynes and Boone: Current conditions do not continue forever. While no one could have foreseen the disruptions in 2020 caused by the global pandemic, the social unrest in the United States, nor the political dysfunction across our democracy, we (like you) have always known to expect and prepare for change.

In 2020, our firm’s forward-looking focus helped us adapt on the fly, moving to a remote work environment seamlessly and, thankfully, not missing a step as we continued partnering with our clients to address challenges and seize opportunities. Through this time, our lawyers kept our clients on the leading edge with hundreds of alerts, webcasts, and presentations addressing a myriad of new issues. We remain extraordinarily grateful for the opportunity to lock arms with people and entities who trust us to help them with their most important matters.

2021 undoubtedly will present its own set of challenges and opportunities. While we do not know, in early January, what those challenges and opportunities will be, we know they will come. We are prepared to move boldly in 2021 so we can help our clients achieve great results.

I am writing to you in my new post as the Managing Partner of Haynes and Boone — the fourth person to hold this position in our firm’s 50-year history. I am grateful for my predecessors who led our firm before me and for the values they instilled in our firm. I am especially appreciative of the strong leadership and achievements of our most-recent Managing Partner, Tim Powers, over the past six years.

Looking ahead to 2021, we will renew our focus on:

  • Clients First: A hallmark of our firm since its founding, I plan to be visible and available to you and our firm. Please know I will always take your call, set a meeting with you, or otherwise make myself available to you at any time for any reason.
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: In our firm’s long-term planning, we have committed to being a leader in diversity, equity and inclusion. And while we have much more work to do, I am happy to report that we are already seeing positive momentum based on these efforts.
  • Involvement in Our Communities: We will continue to be active members in our communities. I plan to encourage our lawyers to be even more involved in these efforts with the help and material support of our firm. As in the past, we will continue to devote considerable resources to pro bono efforts across the globe.
  • Continuous Improvement: We will look for opportunities to make our firm a better place, both in terms of client service and for our employees. Importantly, the firm is investing in wellness initiatives for every employee, and we hope to be the employer of choice for top professionals at all levels of our firm. There is also much we can learn from our clients, and I welcome your thoughts.

With the help of my colleagues and the continued trust of our valued clients, I am confident we will achieve great things in this new year and beyond.

Best wishes to all of you for a bountiful and healthy 2021.
