• Biography

    Matthew Turner is an associate in the Litigation Practice Group in the London office of Haynes and Boone. His practice focuses on litigation and arbitration in the shipping, offshore oil and gas, and energy sectors.

    Matthew has experience of cross-border litigation in the English High Court and Court of Appeal, as well as international commercial arbitrations under ICC and LCIA rules. He has exposure to commercial disputes across a range of sectors, including technology, finance, and pharmaceuticals. Matthew also has a strong understanding of U.S. law issues, having studied for a year at the University of Texas at Austin Law School.

    Prior to joining Haynes and Boone, Matthew trained at a Magic Circle law firm in London, where he sat in the disputes, competition, corporate, and finance departments. He also spent three months on secondment at the London Stock Exchange, working on general commercial and regulatory matters as part of the in-house legal team.

    Matthew has a wealth of pro bono experience, including a successful Supreme Court intervention, and takes a particular interest in criminal justice issues. Whilst at the University of Texas, he worked as a student criminal defence attorney representing clients on death row. During his training contract Matthew enjoyed a three-month secondment to Liberty, the human rights and civil liberties organisation, where he worked on immigration, public, and criminal law cases.
